TERRENCE JENNINGS

 

Since 2000, Photographer Terrence Jennings has been committed to the image with a singularity of purpose. Schooled with the notion of that historical documentation necessary, his body of work is vast and extends to the worlds of photojournalism- including national news, politics, entertainment, event coverage and the creation of photographic art and utilizes his lens engaged upon the American experience with a lean towards emphasizing social justice photographic coverage of our right to control the narratives that determine our collective futures.

His body of work has as appeared in numerous print & online publications as well as in several photographic books. His work has run in NY Daily News, the New York Times, NY Post, The Guardian Newspaper, The Village Voice, Vibe Magazine, Uptown Magazine, Rollingstone Magazine, People.com, The Griot.com, OkayPlayer.com, Ebony Magazine, Ebony.com, Essence.com, and in the photographic books such as ‘Black: A Celebration of a Culture by Deb Willis’, ‘Obama: The Historic Campaign in Photographs’ by Deb Willis & Kevin Merida’, Women's March book "Together We Rise", Posen Beauty’ by Deb Willis, ‘A Time Before Crack ‘ ‘Pieces of a Man’ both by photographer-Jamel Shabazz to name a few.

Influenced through the works & conversations with the likes of Roy DeCarava, Beuford Smith, Ozier Muhammad, Carrie Mae Weems, Adger Cowans, Leroy Henderson, Ming Smith, Dr. Deborah Willis, Jules Allen, Joseph Rodriguez, Dr. Khalil Gibran Muhammad and Jamel Shabazz, his work is in the collections of the Brooklyn Public Library, the New York Public Library, the Schomburg Center, New York University and Harvard University and various other organizations. He is a recent member of the photographic collective, Kamoinge and the founding curator of the award-winning photographic talk series, Visually Speaking!

A lifelong Brooklyn resident with images represented globally, his choice of weapon is the camera.
