a new Chapter for Kamoinge

I am delighted to lead Kamoinge during this transformative season. As we bridge our radical 1963 origins with a modernized global mission, we are architecting an institutional framework built on transparency, structural excellence, and strategic impact.

Our 2026–2028 Strategic Roadmap is more than a plan; it is the professional infrastructure and international system necessary to preserve our legacy while empowering the next generation of photographers across the African Diaspora. We are focused, we are organized, and we are open for the work ahead.

Our evolution

Founded in 1963, Kamoinge was established to honor the power and truth of the Black image. Our foundation rests on the principles of collective voice and artistic excellence. Today, we are bridging this historic legacy with a new institutional vision.

Our Vision is a world where the work of photographers of African descent and the lives they document are fully recognized, preserved, and celebrated as essential to global visual history.”

Our Mission is “To preserve, present, and promote the work of photographers of African descent through archives, exhibitions, digital and innovative platforms, and strategic partnerships that expand access, deepen scholarship, and engage global audiences.

To ensure the long-term sustainability of our mission, Kamoinge is currently implementing a robust framework of governance, fiduciary oversight, and international systems designed to maximize institutional impact and support the next generation of visual storytellers.
