DJIBRIL DRAME
Medina born-and-raised, Djibril’s childhood changed when his dad lost his house: being forced to move to Diamageune a poor neighborhood 16 km away from Dakar. Drame tapped into his emotional intelligence: leading with empathy and resilience as a way of life. Djibril’s works are mostly created and inspired by the African continent’s rich history and culture.
After residing in Los Angeles, California for three years, he decided to move back to his homeland, where he would continue his practice as an interdisciplinary artist. The silver lining in Djibril Drame’s work is his use of materials leaning towards topics of sustainability through waste management, repurpose of animal skulls, innovation of fashion and textile with a thought evoking context on cultural knowledge and research. To grow his practice, Djibril intends to expand and explore these mediums as a means to normalize visual literacy in all the spaces (underprivileged or privileged), throughout all ages and identities (race and gender).
